Well…it’s been 75 weeks…of 2 man farming Tempest Keep aka the Eye (located at Netherstorm in Burning Crusade expansion).
Honestly, I lost all faith in it. We (my husband and I) would go kill Kel’thas every week and he never dropped it. So it took 1.5 years for Kel’thas to finally drop his legendary mount Ashes of Al’ar.
To tell you the truth, I was not even excited when it dropped. I did not scream, I did not jump, I was like oh “here it is”. I told my husband he could have it (since I already had a fiery mount from Heroic Ragnaros) but he wanted me to have it… I was still trying to convince him to take it, but then he yelled for our son (he was in another room) and our son ran in and clicked “need” on my screen and “greed” on my husband’s screen – that solved the problem
My 9-year-old loves to play a hunter (who’s on my account) and since now in World of Warcraft all mounts are account wide, he gets to have every pet and mount on his hunter He’s such a mount collector…
Hands down, I think this is the best looking mount in game. The color and especially animation and trail it leaves when you fly on it is just awesome. Some servers have seen Ashes of Al’ar being sold at Black Market Auction House and it was sold for as high as 1 million gold, 200k 1200000g…I think last year I had my gold close to 1 million because I was doing heavy farming but then again…spending all your gold on one mount is a tough decision to make. It’s all about how badly you want it.
I’ve met people who did not even know who Kel’thas was or where the instance was located… They’d join a pug, go in, die on at beginning, lay dead, then roll on mount with 100 roll, win it and then they’d brag in trade chat about Ashes of Al’ar. And there were were killing Kel’thas religiously for 76 freaking weeks (yes it was 75 weeks with no drops and it dropped on 76th week of kill).
The irony of it is….it dropped during the week when I announced to my raiding team that I am stepping down from raiding and playing for a while. As soon as I made that announcement I think Wow Gods decided: “No….we want you to stay and play…here’s your Ashes”…..
Well….real life calls but still it’s nice to login sometimes and fly around on my favorite mount.
Next mission is to obtain Mimiron’s Head
